This elegant 18th-century cassettone Italian walnut commode dates to approximately 1750–1790. Skilled cabinetmakers crafted the piece during the late Baroque to early Neoclassical transition.
The commode features solid walnut construction with a rich natural grain. Italian artisans favored walnut for its strength, warmth, and longevity. Over time, the wood developed a deep patina that highlights its age and authenticity.
Three spacious drawers provide practical storage. Each drawer displays hand-cut dovetail joinery, a clear sign of pre-industrial craftsmanship. The slightly irregular joints reveal careful handwork rather than machine production.
Strong architectural lines define the façade. Framed drawer panels create balance and symmetry. Carved vertical corner elements resemble classical pilasters and add sculptural depth. A molded base and projecting top reinforce the commode’s bold presence.
This 18th-century Italian chest combines functionality with historic design. It works equally well in traditional interiors and modern curated spaces.
