Hosts: Fully COVID vaccinated – The Sutter Guest Haus is a quiet and serene nine hundred square foot stand-alone guest house available as a short-term rental located eight miles from the City of Hudson business center. Please call or email for price and availability.

The space

Newly restored, the SGH sits back off a quiet country road adjacent to the owner-occupied main house. The nine hundred square foot guest house has a private entrance and a partially fenced-in stone patio. Inside there’s a bedroom alcove with a king-size bed and closet. The sitting area faces a gas fireplace and views of the outdoors. Floors in the bathroom are heated, and the shower has glass doors. The kitchen comes with a full-size refrigerator, a two-burner induction cooktop, and bare cooking essentials. Mugs, flatware, and stemware are provided. A separate designated dining area with a table and four chairs can double as a workstation.

The power generator outside the guest house will automatically engage during a rare power failure, and it’s audible from inside the building.

Everything exists within a historical timeline including the furnishings in your home. Is that chest of drawers you inherited from your grandma an antique? Is the 1960s Danish dining table your parents lovingly cared for that now sits in your home modern? How about the pair of lamps you purchased at the local thrift shop – are they vintage? Let us see what a quick Google search revealed.

ANTIQUES: According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), an antique is classified as a work of art, piece of furniture, or decorative object over 100 years of age. Furthermore, most antiques were not mass-produced. The complexity of the design, emphasis on exotic woods and fabrics made furniture design before the 19th century a rarity and expensive.

MODERN: Wikipedia describes Modern Furniture as furniture produced during the first half of the 20th century. Influenced by the post World War II ideals of cutting excess, modernism sought to break with the ornate styles of the decorative arts. With the introduction of new materials and technology, the age of mass production was born. Decorative furniture and art would now become available to the general population.

VINTAGE: Often when we think of vintage we think of cars and wines. The term has expanded to include anything that is at least 20 to 100 years old. Vintage items for the home have become very desirable in today’s decorative market. They tend to be of good quality, and vintage items have a cool vibe.

Also, keep in mind whatever your preference may be, antique, modern or vintage they all have one thing in common: they’re Green!

Dear Friends and Clients,

Now that we have made it through the holiday season and the art fairs have moved on out of town, it is time to focus on ourselves. And our beloved possessions.

The swings in temperature of late wreak havoc not only on us but on our art and furniture as well. When the heat is turned up in one’s home, the lack of humidity that comes with it can give rise to endless problems. 

With this in mind, it is advisable to have your collection checked each year. I would be more than happy to come to your home and make sure everything is in good shape and answer any questions or concerns you might have. All consultations are free and with no obligation. However, if any restoration or repairs are necessary and you would like to proceed, we can often do the work on site, in your own home.
