A Striking Japanese Studio Pottery Vessel

This Japanese sculptural stoneware vessel combines a quiet rounded form with a dramatic volcanic opening. The contrast gives the piece remarkable visual presence.

The vessel measures 9 inches high and 10 inches in diameter. Its compact proportions create a strong, almost architectural silhouette.

A pale white glaze covers most of the rounded body. The surface shows subtle crackling, speckling, and natural firing variation. These details give the vessel depth without overwhelming its simple form.

Sculptural Volcanic Detail

The mouth provides the strongest visual element. Jagged ceramic ridges rise from the top like a volcanic crater.
