Japanese Showa-Period Bronze

This striking Japanese bronze vase dates to the Showa period and displays confident craftsmanship and powerful decorative imagery.

The vessel features a rounded body, broad shoulders, and a restrained circular neck.

Its substantial proportions give the bronze a strong sculptural presence from every viewing angle.

The dark patinated surface provides a dramatic ground for the finely worked decoration.

Eagle and Wave Decoration

An eagle dominates the front of the vase, descending dramatically above a stylized coastal landscape.

The artist rendered the bird with carefully defined feathers, talons, wings, and expressive facial details.

Selective gilt highlights emphasize portions of the eagle and create contrast against the dark bronze.

Below, rolling waves sweep across the lower body with rhythmic, deeply incised lines.

Mountainous forms extend into the distance and create depth within the compact composition.

The design reflects Japanese traditions celebrating nature, strength, movement, and symbolic animal imagery.

Fine Japanese Metalwork

The artist used engraving, relief work, and contrasting surface treatments to animate the bronze.

Subtle variations in patina reveal the vessel’s age and enhance its richly layered appearance.

The rounded form balances the dynamic eagle and wave decoration with impressive visual restraint.

Its unmarked underside features a recessed circular base surrounded by a broad bronze foot.

A Decorative Japanese Bronze Vase

This Showa-period Japanese bronze works beautifully as a freestanding decorative object or collection centerpiece.

Its dark surface complements traditional, modern, and collected interiors equally well.

Display it on a console, pedestal, library table, or cabinet for maximum visual impact.

The combination of bronze, gilt accents, and dramatic Japanese imagery gives this vessel enduring decorative appeal.
